Travel Guide for Iguaźu Falls, Argentina (South America)

Updated: Oct 4, 2024

The majestic Iguaźu waterfalls are not just a wonder of the world; they're a sanctuary partnered with wildlife and vibrant rainbows at every turn. The sheer force emanating from the falls is both awe-inspiring and deeply spiritual. Gazing at their cascading beauty allowed me to connect with one of the Earth's most elemental forces: water. It flows effortlessly, without disturbance, yet possesses immense power and vitality.

You will discover an iconic travel guide for Iguazu Falls below.

For the optimal experience, plan your visit during the off-season to avoid the exhausting lines and crowds that appear during peak times. I visited in August and enjoyed the luxury of spending 20-35 minutes in uninterrupted awe at the falls and mild temperatures with no lines in sight.

I wouldn't recommend spending more than three days in Puerto Iguazú. Only one full day is all you need to explore the falls thoroughly. The full-day tour, including a boat ride, is linked in Activities.

Recommended amount of time: ONE full day at the falls and a good night's rest.

  1. Place of stay: Host Bed & Meeting

    1. A vibrant, youthful, and lively backpacker's retreat with a playful treehouse theme! Don't hesitate to ask the staff to direct you to a club called Lebond Iguazú; we danced the night away in our sweatpants!

2. Restaurants: I have to say, Puerto Iguazú offers some truly exceptional cuisine and wine! The restaurants listed below are not only highly acclaimed but also pleasantly surprising when it comes to affordability.

  • A piacere: This is the place to go for delicious local fish! With outstanding service, this restaurant is a gem. If you're feeling adventurous, tell them it's your birthday and let the entire restaurant serenade you (don't worry about fibbing; after all, every day is a "birthday" for celebration!)

  • Restaurante La Rueda 1975: Another gem alert! I opted for the local fish and a salad here. As an American, I often crave those spectacular gigantic salads packed with veggies, and let me tell you, this place delivers just that! Every bite of fish, salad, and local white wine was a delight—simply delicious!

3. Activities

  • FULL DAY IGAUZÚ ARGENTINEAN SIDE TOUR: This tour was absolutely perfect for viewing the Argentine side of the falls. We were picked up bright and early and taken to multiple viewing points around Iguazu. I highly recommend splurging on the optional boat ride tour—it's worth every penny!

  • IceBar Iguazú: The ice bar of your dreams! Enjoy unlimited cocktails for thirty minutes served in an ice cub—what an experience! With fantastic music and vibes, it's an unforgettable time. Just be prepared—it gets quite cold, so the permitted time is perfect for enjoying the experience to the fullest.

4. What not to do

  • Take my word for it and avoid visiting during the high season, which spans from December to February. The lines are excruciatingly long, and things become an ordeal due to the scorching heat and humidity, leaving you feeling exhausted and drenched in sweat.

Xoxo,

Chelsey
