Adjusting to College After Studying Abroad: Tips for Transitioning Back

Updated: Jul 9, 2024

Especially after studying abroad and re-adjusting to your (new) college life, what are tips to ease this transition?

As the semester begins anew, changes from the previous term or year may include new realizations, shifts in perspective, studying abroad, or changes with friends.

Despite change being the one constant promised by the Universe, I find it challenging to readjust to the college scene after nearly eight months of studying and working abroad.

Here are the tips that I found that best resonated with me while adjusting to college after studying abroad because, to be completely honest, this transition is harder than I thought :(

  1. HUMOR! Laugh at your lows and smile at your highs.

  2. Don't stress about stressing!

  3. Focus on your values, not your fears!

  4. Don't expect stability!

  5. Accept the past, and push for the glorious future you so lovingly dream of!

  6. Practice yoga or a form of exercise to help be present in your body

  7. Party and study SMART — not hard! :)

Transitioning to old energy with a new perspective can be eye-opening because what once made us happy and comfortable possibly isn't making us happy or comfortable anymore.

After speaking with a twin flame, she told me that it's okay to not be in the space you want to be in. Sometimes we only give ourselves credit when we feel good but in order to experience the good, we MUST experience the bad.

Instead of focusing on the outcome of being happy, enjoy the process of getting there and stop attaching happiness as the end result.

Life will go up and down and trying our best to stay in the middle of the highs and lows will stabilize that inner peace I attempt to shed light on.

I am having a hard time doing this myself because I see things differently now. I don't want to engage in old activities or behaviors thus pushing me to engage in new things, see things in a new way, and branch out in a new way.

It's all a learning experience that will lead me to the next great thing!

Laugh at your lows and smile at your highs.

I really like that line above because, at the end of the day, everything was created from love. Your negative thoughts in some way or another came from love and are trying to teach you something. So, therefore, it's okay to laugh at hard times. Jolly times are on the way!

Xoxo,

Chelsey
